Multiple charges have been filed against an Illinois driver after a crash that killed one man. The criminal charges stemming from the car accident include driving under the influence, disobeying a stop sign and driving with no insurance. The accident happened on May 16.

Reports indicate that a driver from Colchester approached an intersection in Scotland Township and ran a stop sign. As he crossed into the intersection, his vehicle collided with the car of another Colchester man. Both of the drivers were taken to a local hospital with injuries, but the passenger in the second car died at the scene of the accident.

This tragic collision that took the life of a 34-year old man is still being investigated by authorities. The driver who ran the stop sign may be held liable for one victim's death as well as for the injuries of the other driver. In the wake of the immense loss suffered by the deceased man's family, they may wish to pursue civil claims under our state's wrongful death laws. Illinois offers protections to the families of car accident victims who died as a result of another party's negligence. The pain and suffering of losing a loved are difficult enough without an emotional struggle turning into a financial one.

The injuries suffered by the second driver were not specified in a local report, but his time in the hospital was no doubt costly. To help compensate for that expense and for any other accident-related costs, a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver may be in order.
