A tragic accident on an Illinois roadway took the life of a 20-year-old man recently. The man's vehicle was struck by a car containing three people. Now, police are investigating just why the fatal car accident happened at a local intersection in the town of Normal.

Early reports from Illinois officials say that the accident victim was in a car heading west just prior to the car accident. He was a student at Illinois State University. It was in the early morning hours of a weekend day when the car, and another heading northbound, came to the intersection at the same time.

For reasons that are as of yet unclear, the cars collided shortly before 5 a.m. The impact left the driver of the westbound car dead and those in the other vehicle injured. The injured were taken to advocate BroMenn Medical Center for medical care. All others involved in the crash were expected to survive their injuries.

The injured victims and the surviving family members of the deceased victim may seek to make claims against the man deemed to have been at fault for the car accident. These claims typically fall under Illinois personal injury and wrongful death laws and can assist victims -- including the family of deceased victims -- who are able to prove that the injuries and/or death suffered were caused by the negligence of another party. Monetary awards can be ordered for wrongful death, pain and suffering and lost wages. These civil court claims are apart from any criminal charges, such as the aggravated driving while intoxicated charges filed here, that the accused driver may face as a result of the official investigation.
