Though numerous drivers may not realize it, they put their trust in other drivers whenever they travel the roadways. They trust that other drivers will heed traffic signals and directions and do their best to travel safely. Unfortunately, many drivers can make mistakes, and a car accident could easily take place if a traveler fails to follow posted directions.

An accident recently occurred in Illinois that lead to one fatality and to another individual being seriously injured. It was reported that the incident took place at an intersection after a driver did not stop at a stop sign. A man was traveling south when he failed to stop, and his vehicle was hit by another vehicle that was traveling west. The accident took place just after 10 a.m.

The crash led to the man suffering fatal injuries, and he was pronounced deceased at the accident site. The driver of the other vehicle suffered serious injuries, but she is expected to survive. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment. It was noted that there was a witness to the incident who reportedly saw that the man did not stop at the intersection, but authorities should continue to investigate.

Though the driver who did not stop at the stop sign died in the incident, the other driver may still be able to file a personal injury claim. If she chooses, the injured party could potentially file a claim against the estate of the driver considered at fault in order to pursue reparations. If a case is successful, compensation could be awarded that could aid in paying medical expenses and other damages resulting from the Illinois car accident.
