Merging on an interstate roadway can be tricky for many drivers. There are several aspects that need to be considered while trying to merge into the flow of traffic. Some individuals may not change lanes in order to let other vehicles on the roadway, and some drivers may merge too quickly if they do not see an approaching vehicle. In either case, a serious accident could take place.

A recent crash in Illinois led to the death of a motorcyclist. It was reported that the motorcyclist was traveling behind another vehicle, and both were attempting to merge onto the interstate. However, a third vehicle was on the shoulder of the roadway, and when that vehicle attempted to merge back on to the road, it hit the motorcycle. As a result, the motorcycle was pushed into the vehicle in front of it.

The motorcyclist was transported from the scene to an area hospital to be treated for injuries, but sadly, he succumbed to those injuries. The driver of the vehicle in front of the motorcyclist was uninjured, but the driver of the third vehicle was also taken to the hospital. At the time of the report, charges were pending for the driver of the third vehicle.

When vehicles attempt to change lanes, it is important that the area is clear. If not, a serious accident such as this one could occur. Because an individual lost his life in this incident, the family of the motorcyclist may have reason to file a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault. Such a claim could prove helpful if the family wishes to pursue compensation for damages resulting from the Illinois accident.
