It is, unfortunately, not uncommon for accidents to take place while individuals are on the job. These accidents can range from minor to fatal, and workers could be at risk of suffering injuries when any type of accident occurs. Luckily, workers' compensation may be able to help individuals or their families if a workplace accident has led to a serious injury or death and the resulting expenses and hardships.

An accident at a railroad work site in Illinois recently led to the death of one individual. It was reported that the victim was a 20-year-old man who was working for the R.J. Corman Railroad Group. Work was being performed on a set of railroad tracks, and machinery was being used while the work was being carried out.

The man had been the sole occupant of an all-terrain vehicle when the vehicle was hit by a piece of machinery. A magnetic crane was being used to move railroad spikes, and that piece of equipment reportedly went out of control. As a result, the crane spun around, which resulted in the collision with the ATV. The man, unfortunately, suffered a serious injury to his head, which proved fatal.

Any type of fatal accident is an unfortunate event, and the loss will likely be felt by multiple individuals. Because this fatal incident took place while the man was on the job, it is possible that his surviving family could potentially qualify for workers' compensation benefits on his behalf. Such benefits could help with the loss of income and other expenses resulting from the tragic event. Information on such benefits could help interested Illinois parties determine whether they may be eligible for compensation.
