Lanes are divided on roadways for the obvious reason of keeping travelers moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, many drivers do not remain in the correct lane while they are traveling. This action can cause vehicles to move into the opposite lanes of travel and into oncoming traffic. Typically, such incidents can result in a collision, and fatalities could occur. In such situations, family members may face considerable emotional losses

A recent accident in Illinois was reported as having caused the deaths of four individuals. The situation took place at approximately 9 a.m. when a minivan traveling north with four occupants was struck head-on by a pickup truck traveling south. The driver of the pickup had failed to stay in the southbound lanes.

This situation unfortunately led to three occupants of the minivan and the driver of the pickup truck suffering fatal injuries. They were all pronounced dead at the accident site. The fourth occupant of the minivan was reported as having been transported from the scene for treatment. According to reports, authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal event.

Because the situation led to multiple deaths, many surviving individuals will likely face difficult times ahead. Though the driver of the pickup truck also died in the accident, the family members of the other victims may still be able to pursue legal action against that party's estate. By filing wrongful death claims, effected individuals may be able to seek compensation for emotional losses, funeral expenses and other damages permissible under Illinois law.
