When a driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he or she will likely not be able to maintain proper control of their vehicle. A recent car accident took place in Illinois that involved an impaired driver who failed to remain in the correct lane. This failure resulted in the car colliding with a pickup truck that was traveling the opposite direction.

The accident took place at approximately 6 p.m. when the car driver lost control. There were at least two individuals in the car and three individuals in the pickup truck at the time of the crash. The force of the impact reportedly caused the car to be split in half.

The driver of the pickup truck and his two sons were transported from the scene to an area hospital. It was unclear what exact injuries they may have suffered. The driver of the car was taken from the scene by a helicopter. That individual is also facing charges for driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed and other allegations related to the injury-causing accident.

The individuals in the pickup truck may face considerable pain and suffering for their injuries as well as financial hardships relating to medical bills and other expenses. If they wish to seek compensation for those damages stemming from the car accident, filing personal injury claims may be an option to consider. Information on taking such civil action in Illinois may help interested parties determine whether such steps could be right for them.
