Traveling the roadways does not come without certain risks. Car and truck accidents can  take place and cause a variety of outcomes, and as expected, those outcomes can be devastating. At the very least, property damage could result, and in worst case scenarios, individuals could be seriously injured or killed. Because of these results, determining who may have been at fault is crucial information.

It was recently reported that an accident in Illinois took place after a semi-truck and an SUV collided almost head on. Details on what caused the accident to take place were not given in the report. It was noted that the incident occurred just after 8:30 a.m. and that roadways remained closed until approximately 2 p.m. as emergency crews worked the scene.

The incident resulted in the 18-year-old driver of the SUV suffering fatal injuries. His passenger -- a 20-year-old man -- was considered to be in critical condition after the crash and had already undergone surgery at the time of the report. Authorities are continuing to investigate, and at this time, they do not believe weather conditions played a role in the incident.

Truck accidents often lead to harrowing results. Due to the outcomes of this Illinois incident, civil claims could possibly be filed. If the driver of the truck is considered at fault, the family of the deceased victim may have cause to file a wrongful death claim, and the seriously injured passenger in the SUV may wish to file a personal injury claim. If the SUV driver is considered at fault, the passenger may still be able to seek compensation by filing a claim against that driver's estate.
