Illinois man in fair condition after extrication from vehicle

On Behalf of | Apr 27, 2012 | Car Accidents

A recent two-car collision in Illinois required that a man be extricated from his vehicle and transported to a local hospital. The crash caused major damage to the vehicles involved, and the 33-year-old driver who was apparently at fault for the crash was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid a car accident.

The collision happened during the daylight hours. Though the 41-year-old who was injured in the crash slowed his car and signaled that he was going to turn, the other driver apparently failed to react accordingly. The 33-year-old crashed his SUV into the rear of the 41-year-old’s car, forcing the smaller vehicle into a ditch.

Police and rescuers arrived at the scene and found the older man trapped inside his vehicle. After officials worked to extricate him, the victim was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in fair condition. The precise nature of his injuries wasn’t disclosed. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

Depending on the results of the police investigation, the injured victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim against the other driver. A successful claim could include reimbursement for medical expenses, lost income and other damages.

When Illinois residents are victimized by someone else’s negligent or reckless driving, the victims should do what is in their power to preserve the evidence of the crash and their injuries. Documenting the cause of the accident, along with any expenses incurred as a result, is a solid first step toward obtaining due compensation following a serious injury.
