A man has died after a multi-vehicle crash that included a large truck. Early reports indicate that the now-deceased victim of the truck accident was on an Illinois road when the car that he was driving was struck from behind by a box truck. The impact from the collision caused the victim’s car to be involved in a chain reaction accident that included at least three more vehicles.
Some of the people in the cars that were involved in the truck accident after the initial impact were taken to local hospitals for medical treatment. It is unclear what injuries they suffered or their severity. However, multiple emergency vehicles responded to the accident scene immediately following the incident.
Illinois police are continuing to investigate the multi-vehicle truck accident. In such cases, officials typically review evidence in an effort to discover exactly what circumstances caused or contributed to a collision. The answer to this question may lead investigators to determine that a specific driver was at fault for any injuries to others who are involved in an accident.
Once fault is assessed, injured victims of such a truck accident may be able to make claims for damages against the driver at fault. This liability could include payments for lost wages and medical bills. For the surviving family of a deceased victim, they may be able to use Illinois wrongful death laws to help regain some of the economic losses that they have suffered as a result of the crash. However, no amount of money will be able to compensate them for the loss of their loved one.
