On Oct. 13, a tragic car accident took the lives of three individuals and seriously injured five others. Late Sunday evening, seven members of the same Illinois family were driving back from attending a family party when their mini van was struck head-on by another vehicle. The car accident caused two members of that family to be killed and five of them to be hurt. The driver of the other vehicle was also killed.
Among those who died were two sisters, a 77-year-old woman and a 57-year-old woman. The man driving the vehicle that hit them head-on was a 28-year-old. Witnesses who were present at the accident scene said that the neighborhood was in shock.
According to a police sergeant, it appeared that the 28-year-old man crossed over into oncoming traffic just before it smashed into the minivan. The 17-year-old who was driving the minivan said that she panicked when she realized she did not know how to avoid the accident. Just before the impact she shut her eyes and then it happened.
The damage in the car accident was particularly extensive and survivors were extracted from the vehicle by emergency responders. Tearfully, family members returned to the scene of the accident on Monday, Oct. 14, to visit the scene where the car accident took place. Three crosses now adorn the side of the road.
Police are continuing their investigation of this Illinois car accident to determine why the driver crossed into oncoming traffic. At this time, they have not ruled out the possibility that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Victims of this accident, and the family members of the women who died, will have the opportunity to file personal injury and wrongful death claims relating to this accident. A successful lawsuit of this type can help the injured pay for their medical treatment, which no doubt represents a significant financial burden on this family. While no amount of money could ever replace a loved one, a wrongful death action can also achieve a powerful sense of closure for family members while bringing them a certain level of monetary compensation.
