Illinois workers’ compensation intended to help injured people

On Behalf of | Oct 9, 2013 | Workers' Compensation

Farming is an important industry in Illinois. In addition, it is a dangerous one for some of those who work in the fields harvesting the food that we eat. When accidents happen, people can suffer injury. Often accidents also lead those who are injured to make a claim to our state’s workers’ compensation program.

Illinois workers’ compensation is an insurance program that is intended to assist those who have been inured or killed on the job. A claim to the program can result in payments for medical care and to help make ends meet. This is especially important to workers and families who are unable to make a living because the injuries that they suffered caused them to be unable to work.

In a recent case that may be of interest to our readers, a man was on the job at a beet farm just prior to an unfortunate incident. According to an account of the event, the machine being used to harvest the beets became clogged with vegetables and dirt. To fix the machine, the worker climbed on top of the machine. That is when his leg became stuck and rescue workers had to be called.

The good news is that the man survived the accident and his injuries were not life-threatening. However, he had to be taken to a local hospital for medical care. The injury may result in his missing work and a claim to the workers’ compensation program for his home state. In this type of case, a claim could help the man and his family make ends meet as he recovers.
