Roadways in Illinois hold all kinds of dangers, from distracted drivers to disabled vehicles, which can put motorists at risk for a crash. Recently, a van that stalled in a center lane on Interstate 290 in the Chicago area was involved in an auto accident that left two women dead. In addition, two others suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police stated that no charges were filed in the aftermath of the collision.

According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on Jan. 12 in the inbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway. The Ford Windstar was rear-ended by a Dodge Durango after it stalled. The 30-year-old driver of the van and a 29-year-old passenger died instantly. They were reportedly not wearing seatbelts.

A front passenger in the Windstar and the driver of the Durango were both injured, though the extent of their injuries was not reported. Police reported that both of the injured parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. As police investigated the accident scene, they closed off all inbound lanes of I-290.

Even though the two decedents were not wearing seatbelts when the auto accident occurred, their loved ones may look into their options for pursuing a wrongful death action. In Illinois, the success of such a case typically depends on evidence that the accident was caused by the negligent actions of another person. In addition, the injured passenger in the van may be able to file a personal injury claim. Any compensation awarded can help offset expenses that typically result from serious accidents like this. In addition, the plaintiffs may obtain the closure they need to move forward with their lives.
