Violations could lead to workers’ compensation need in Illinois

Many individuals know that having the proper training is a key part in being able to perform work duties well. Not only does training help employees understand what is expected of them, it can also teach them proper safety measures and what to do in the event of an accident. Lack of training in any profession could result in an injury-causing accident and leave an employee needing workers’ compensation.

A Home Depot store in Illinois was recently cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, due to safety violations found at the site. It was reported that some of the industrial equipment being used had not been properly serviced when in need of repair, and that reviews of forklift operator performance was not conducted as often as necessary. This violation is serious, as machinery and equipment can contribute to a considerable number of workplace injuries and deaths.

On top of the issues with machinery, there was also concern over the training of employees. The Home Depot was reportedly cited for not having certain training measures, but representatives for the company have stated that there was a “miscommunication,” as the company apparently does have the training processes. At this time, the company could face fines for over $110,000.

Using equipment that needs repairs and not being properly trained could very easily contribute to a workplace accident taking place. If an employee is injured while on the job, he or she could possibly be entitled to workers’ compensation for resulting medical expenses and time away from work. If a party believes that he or she should receive such benefits, information on workers’ compensation in Illinois may be helpful in determining eligibility.
