When a motorcyclist is involved in an accident that leads to injuries, many individuals may assume that the motorcycle operator was the one who was injured. However, if motorcycle accidents involve pedestrians, it is likely that those who are on foot are at risk of suffering the more serious injuries. Motorcycles are just as likely to inflict severe wounds on a pedestrian as other vehicles, and catastrophic results are not unheard of.

A similar accident involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian recently occurred in Illinois. It was reported that a 56-year-old man was walking in the roadway when he was hit by a motorcycle traveling north. Emergency crews were alerted to the situation at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in the accident, and he was pronounced dead almost an hour after authorities were called. It was not reported whether the motorcyclist suffered any injuries in the accident. At this time, the incident is continuing to be investigated, and it was not disclosed whether any charges or citations would stem from the fatal event.

Motorcycle accidents are too often fatal incidents, and this Illinois accident unfortunately had that outcome. Hearing the news about the tragic loss of a family member can be devastating for those close to the victim. Dealing with the emotional upheaval following the sudden event may be the main concern of the family, but they could also have financial obligations with which to contend. These obligations could add more stress to the situation overall. As a result, they may wish to consider learning more about wrongful death claims and pursuing a case for compensation.
