Truck accidents: Bicyclist injured after being struck in Illinois

On Behalf of | Oct 30, 2014 | Truck Accidents

Many individuals know that even the most skilled truck drivers could potentially be involved in a serious accident. These vehicles can be much more difficult to navigate than smaller automobiles, and without the proper training and license, the likelihood of truck accidents taking place could increase. In such a situation, individuals who are involved in such a wreck could become seriously injured and need medical attention.

A serious accident involving a semi-truck and a bicyclist recently took place in Illinois. It was reported that the man driving the truck had apparently stolen it, and it was not reported whether the man knew the proper way to operate such a vehicle. While driving the stolen truck, the man hit a person on a bicycle, and the driver of the truck did not remain on the scene.

The bicyclist was injured in the accident and was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not specifically noted in the report. The truck driver was apprehended by police, and he is currently facing charges for failing to report an injury-causing accident as well as for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Truck accidents are scary experiences, and the bicyclist may feel considerably lucky not to have suffered fatal injuries in such a collision. However, the injuries he did suffer could cause considerable setbacks and financial difficulties as he works toward paying for medical expenses. As a result, the injured party may want to consider filing a personal injury claim in Illinois against the driver considered responsible for his injuries and other permissible damages.
