Parents of new drivers are often uneasy when they first start letting their child drive on their own. Unfortunately for some parents, their wariness may not have been unwarranted if their child is involved in a serious accident. Should a car accident with a young driver prove to be a fatal, the driver and his or her parents may have a serious legal situation to contend with, especially if the victim's family files a wrongful death claim.

A fatal accident in Illinois recently resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy. The boy was a passenger in a vehicle that was being driven by another 16-year-old. It was reported that their vehicle was traveling south when the driver apparently lost control and was involved in an accident with a vehicle traveling the opposite direction.

Unfortunately, the passenger in the southbound vehicle suffered fatal injuries. The driver of that vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were both transported to the hospital, but they were considered to be in stable condition. At this time, authorities are working to determine what may have contributed to the accident taking place.

The family of the teenager who was killed in the accident are undoubtedly feeling much grief over the loss of their child. Due to the financial and emotional hardships that can stem from such a situation, the decedent's family may want to consider a wrongful death claim for seeking compensation. Because the driver of the vehicle was a minor, his parents could potentially face claims for liability themselves, and the victim's family may wish to find out more about how a civil case for their situation could potentially proceed in Illinois.
