Areas where roads intersect can pose hazards for individuals on foot who are trying to cross the street. If a vehicle is turning onto a street that a pedestrian is attempting to cross, the driver may see the individual too late or not see the person at all. As a result of such situations, serious accidents can take place that lead to pedestrians suffering injuries.
A similar situation recently took place in Illinois when a woman was crossing the street. Reports stated that a UPS delivery truck was turning on the street that the woman was crossing, and the truck hit her in the process. It was noted that the woman became trapped underneath the truck and had to be removed by emergency personnel.
The pedestrian regrettably suffered life-threatening injuries in the event. It was mentioned that the woman was 30 years old. At this time, an investigation into the situation is still open, and it was not reported whether any charges have been filed or will be filed. Representatives for UPS stated that the driver involved in the accident was experienced and that the company is cooperating in the investigation.
Serious accidents involving pedestrians are always tragic events. The woman hit by the UPS truck will likely face difficult hurdles as she hopefully recovers from her serious injuries. It is likely that she will need extensive medical attention, and as a result could also face financial hardships due to medical expenses. Information on filing a personal injury claim in Illinois may help her seek reparations for these costs and other damages from the party or parties considered responsible.
