Family members who have lost a loved one in a car accident may want to explore their legal options. Because significant emotional and financial losses can result from fatal events, it is not uncommon for victims' families to file civil claims after a car accident. If interested, parties may want to better understand the available options and how taking such legal steps could affect their situation.

Families of two Illinois teenagers may be considering their options after a serious accident. It was reported that a driver and two teenage passengers were in a car when it collided with a tree. An officer stated that the driver had been speeding and that alcohol was considered a factor in the crash. The driver of the car did not remain on the scene after the accident took place.

Reports stated that the two teenagers were described by friends as being 15 years old and 17 years old. Unfortunately, one of those individuals died at the accident site, and the other individual was later declared dead at an area hospital. Though the driver left the scene, he was later taken into custody after going to a hospital. At the time of the report, charges were pending.

Because two lives were lost in this fatal car accident, the families of those victims may want to understand their legal options. Civil claims could potentially help those parties pursue restitution for damages that have come about due to the accident. Information on wrongful death claims and related civil proceedings in Illinois may prove beneficial.
