Two vehicles were involved in a fatal collision on a recent Saturday in Illinois. The car accident resulted in the loss of one life and injuries to several others. State police continue to investigate the crash.

Authorities say that a 37-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a car that was heading in an eastbound direction on the Illinois road. Apparently, the woman's vehicle approached an intersection where a stop sign is posted to traffic coming from her direction. Reports indicate that the woman failed to obey the sign and, instead, proceeded to drive through the intersection.

Upon entering the intersection, the woman's vehicle is said to have crashed into another car that was traveling southbound on the intersected road. A 69-year-old man who was driving that car was injured upon impact and transported to an area hospital for treatment. The woman who apparently failed to stop at the posted sign was also taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead by an emergency room physician.

The woman's vehicle was also carrying a passenger. The 48-year-old man was flown to a St. Louis medical center after suffering a traumatic leg injury. Several area law enforcement and rescue departments are assisting in the ongoing investigation of the tragedy.

When an Illinois car accident results in personal injury, the person injured may file a legal claim in a civil court. This allows him or her to seek compensation for damages sustained. In a successfully litigated case, monies ordered by the court can be used to pay medical bills and help alleviate other costs associated with the accident. If the person deemed negligent in the crash is deceased, the legal claim may still be filed against his or her estate.
