When areas hold special events to celebrate holidays or other occasions, there may be cause for roadways to be closed and pedestrians to be on or near the streets. Unfortunately, during these events, a car accident could take place that leaves many individuals suffering from injuries. If a vehicle crashes into a crowd, the likelihood of multiple individuals being injured increases.

It was recently reported that an accident in Illinois took place during a parade. Reports stated that a woman driving a van apparently drove through an intersection near the parade and struck several spectators of either side of the street. At the time of the report, it was unclear what may have caused the driver to lose control.

The situation resulted in nine individuals being injured. There was a mix of children and adults among those who were injured. Ambulances that were initially on the scene as part of the parade worked to transport the injured individuals. The injuries were not considered life-threatening, but at least one person was seriously injured. Authorities were continuing to investigate the incident, and the possibility that the driver had a medical issue is being considered.

An unexpected car accident that involves pedestrians can be a distressing event. Because this Illinois incident resulted in multiple individuals being injured, it is possible that civil claims could result. If anyone who was seriously injured wishes to seek legal action, filing a personal injury claim against the driver considered at fault may allow them to pursue compensation for medical bills and other monetary damages.
