Illinois family may seek compensation for emotional losses

On Behalf of | Nov 24, 2015 | Wrongful Death

Head-on collisions occur all too frequently. These accidents can lead to serious injuries that sometimes prove fatal, and families may be left facing monetary and emotional losses. A recent accident in Illinois resulted in the death of one individual, and her family likely has many question as they struggle to cope with their loss.

The accident reportedly occurred when a northbound vehicle failed to remain in the correct lane. The 29-year-old driver of that vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, resulting in a collision with another vehicle head on. A third vehicle also traveling south behind the second car ended up involved in the accident after the initial collision. Emergency crews responded to the scene just after 7 a.m.

The 49-year-old woman in the second vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the crash. She was declared dead at the site of the accident. The driver of the northbound vehicle and the driver of the second southbound vehicle were both transported from the scene to be treated for injuries, but those injuries were not considered serious. The 29-year-old driver received tickets for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Because this accident resulted in the death of one individual, the victim’s family is likely entitled to file a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault. Such a claim could help them work toward potentially gaining compensation for monetary and emotional losses resulting from the Illinois crash. Information on filing a civil claim may allow them to determine whether that is a step with which they would like to move forward.
