Losing a loved one under any circumstances can be particularly difficult for the family members left behind. Parties may look for answers as to how the death occurred, and while working through their grief, they may also may need to make difficult decisions regarding funeral arrangements and other related processes. Because emotional and monetary losses are not unusual after a fatal accident, the family of a victim may wish to file a wrongful death claim in order to seek reparations for such damages.
One family in Illinois may be exploring their options after a recent fatal crash. According to reports, the accident involved one vehicle, and there were two individuals occupying the car at the time. The driver of the vehicle was reported as being an 18-year-old woman, and the passenger was reported as being a 22-year-old man. Both individuals suffered fatal injuries.
Reportedly, the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle on the roadway, and as a result, the car crashed into tree. The incident took place just before 2 a.m. The driver was transported to an area hospital, but she was declared deceased. The passenger was pronounced dead at the crash site.
Though the driver was also killed in this Illinois accident, the family of the deceased passenger may still have options for pursuing legal action. A civil claim for wrongful death could potentially be filed against the driver’s estate and any separate registered owned of the car in order to pursue compensation for emotional and monetary losses stemming from the event. Information on such claims could help them determine whether they would like to follow that path.
