Public transportation may be an option that some individuals consider for their travels, especially if they are going long distances. Unfortunately, serious accidents can still take place involving these forms of transportation, and in a worst-case scenario, an individual could be killed in such an accident. If this type of incident occurs, the victim’s family may wish to consider filing a wrongful death claim.
It was recently reported that a crash took place in Illinois involving a bus. There were 33 individuals on the bus at the time of the accident, including a 21-year-old college student from out of state. At approximately 6:40 a.m. the driver of the bus lost control and collided with a construction sign. The driver of the bus stated that he had attempted to avoid hitting a pickup truck that had veered into the lane.
The crash resulted in the 21-year-old student suffering fatal injuries. There were also four other individuals who were injured, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening. It was noted that the bus company is cooperating with the police investigation and the bus has been taken to a facility in order to be inspected.
The family of the victim involved in this bus accident is likely devastated over the loss of their loved one. Once authorities determine who may have been at fault for the incident, the family may wish to file a wrongful death claim against the party or parties considered responsible. Information on taking such civil action in Illinois may help them work toward gaining compensation for resulting damages.
